Yet, the thrust of modern society has become calculation about how best to achieve the required outcome. Rational action has narrow aims and objectives that are geared the towards providing a means to an end or obtaining value for money. This meant that human actions based on emotion needed to be replaced with rationally motivated actions to meet the demands of professionalism. This kind of modernisation in sport was part of the move from traditional and amateur to professional sport forms. This paper discusses the professionalisation and commercialisation of sport and their potentially disenchanting consequences.",
